The Midnight Sun Film Festival proudly presents:  

Finland Forever – Films from Finland 9.–11. October at 7 pm and 9.15 pm at Orfeo’s Erben, Hamburger Allee 45, Frankfurt.

At the time of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2014, the Guest of Honour of which is Finland, a wide selection of Finnish films will be shown in Frankfurt. (See all blogposts concerning Frankfurt event here.)

At Orfeo’s Erben, art house film theater in Hamburger Allee 45 some of the most important ones will be screened.

Thu 9 Oct 7 pm Aki Kaurismäki will introduce Valkoinen Peura / The White Reindeer (Erik Blomberg, 1952) This film was chosen by Peter von Bagh (1943–2014).
A true classic! A newlywed woman goes to the local shaman to get some help with her lovelife, but instead gets turned into a white reindeer vampire.

Miss Farkku-Suomi / Miss Blue Jeans (Matti Kinnunen, 2012)
Epic tale based on the Northern town of Oulu in 1970’s. This is how a rock star is born. Based on a novel of Kauko Röyhkä, and more than a half of is based on author’s own experiences. And in the 1970's there really was a Miss Blue Jeans contest in Finland. See the trailer here!

Tove ja Tooti Euroopassa / Tove and Tooti in Europe (Kanerva Cederström, 2004)
Celebrate writer and illustrator Tove Jansson's 100th anniversary! Unique films on Tove Jansson and her spouse, artist Tuulikki Pietilä travelling in Central Europe. The original material was shot by Pietilä over decades in Paris, Dublin, Venice, Iceland and Corsica.

Maa on syntinen laulu / The Earth Is a Sinful Song (Rauni Mollberg, 1973)
A mind-blowing interpretation of Timo K. Mukka's classic novel. Rural forest up in the Northern Finland is a platform of passion, longing and moral outrage.

On Wed 8 Oct at the Book fair, 12:00 in Forum 1, Finland Pavilion
the most famous Finnish film critic, director and writer Peter von Bagh will publish the English translation of Sodankylä Forever – Masters of Cinema Under the Midnight Sun, a written masterpiece with photos documenting the three decades of the festival, published by Rosebud Books, Finland. Von Bagh will also be telling about his latest translated into German, Kaurismäki über Kaurismäki, published by Alexander Verlag.

The Deutsches Filminstitut by the river Main, Schaumainkai 41, will screen films of Peter von Bagh and Aki Kaurismäki among others, this autumn before and after the book fair.
